While online social networks are great, there's a reason business networking still takes place in meet (meat?) space. Because in-person networking is still effective, if not essential, to building certain types of businesses. However, there are a few basic building blocks from which to build your connections. Without these, your chances of success are probably worse than merely "hanging a shingle".
